Construction of the network for the new commercial estate development posed a series of challenges unique to the project. Following consultations with local authorities specialist equipment was required to divert an area of the River Kennet in order to secure the vicinity for directional drilling to take place. Ground conditions proved to be a great challenge generally as the region was below water table.

Environmental issues were overcome with the route going through Greenham Common Airfield. There were existing gases leaking from the ground, so a site-specific safety plan was implemented including the teams being constantly monitored while working on the airfield.
