Tabard Square Tunnel
The Cabling was to be used to power the multi-million pound Development. Whilst undertaking the installation of the network, RCD were required to excavate into an existing heavily congested major utilities tunnel, with a 1.5 x 1.5 meter working corridor containing gas, water and electricity. This undertaking was extremely challenging for our teams and led to 10 weeks of extensive preparatory work in order present a safe working route.
Due to the existing utilities infrastructure and very difficult working/safety conditions, no mechanical plant was permitted within the confines of the tunnel system. Approximately fifty RCD employees were required to undergo confined space training, thereby allowing them to enter and work safely in the Tunnel. When the electric cable was lowered into the tunnel, specialist roller equipment was used to facilitate the safe passage whilst pulling the cable through the tunnel by hand. The long cable run required a very labour intensive crafted support system to be attached securely to the wall. The installation cable system was specifically designed for this very unique project.
